SIL Global's Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative

Awareness Empowers
Human trafficking threatens minority language communities in large part due to a lack of awareness and resources in their languages. With 6,300 of the world's 7,000 languages spoken by minority communities, these groups experience a disproportionate threat of exploitation simply due to the languages they speak or sign.
SIL, working with trusted organizations such as A21 and The Salvation Army, aims to address this inequity by creating educational materials, developing language technologies, facilitating community assessments, and hosting awareness events that focus on non-dominant languages. This program seeks to impact 10 local language communities annually — including Deaf communities — in countries such as Nepal, Indonesia, South Africa and Cameroon.
With your support, local leaders can take steps to protect the most vulnerable in their communities.
Real work. Real Impact.
By leveraging our linguistic expertise and impact in nearly 90 countries, we empower vulnerable minorities through tailored, context-specific language resources. This initiative will enhance regional awareness in highly exploited regions such as Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa.
